Introduction
Farming is vital within our society and will continue to be so. As the global population grows, the challenge of producing food becomes more critical. John Deere’s goal is to be able to continuously leverage trending topics to help farmers feed the world. The possibility to virtually recreate the physical farming environment unlocks many opportunities for farmers to see the world through different lenses and optimize their businesses from many perspectives. Whether VR, AR, mixed reality or 3D, there are numerous applications that can advance the user experience in the farming environment.
The Dashboard
Farmers are dealing with a lot of data that are sometimes difficult to read and understand. John Deere’s Operational Center has made this easier by organizing the farm’s data from the field information to the status of the farmer’s equipment. But even with that, all that information can be overwhelming. The farmers using the John Deere Operational Center had a difficult time getting an overview of the important features. With my team “Rubydobeedo”, we decided to go for an improvement and we developed a dashboard. The concept is user-friendly and benefits gaining decision time on every farmer's needs. Did you know that farmers are checking 4-5 weather apps every day?
The News: all relevant information, news, and updates about the industry.
The Task Progress: an overview of the machine's progress and the given tasks.
The Weather: most accurate weather forecast with updates and alerts throughout the day. It also includes the soil moisture unit, which will help decide when to start preparing the soil or the sowing.
The Crop Progress: shows last year’ results, prediction for the year, and the progress for 2023 as it compares to the prior values.
The Market: market prices for the crops.
Next step
Implementation of a platform to help the new generations learn about the business, machines, etc.
Virtual Reality project to network with partners, other farmers, and the service center.
